Finca Varona la Vella, family owned for 4 generations, is located in the municipality of Sant Mateu, about 2 km from the town center, situated on the slope of the mountain La Bastida, at an average altitude of 370 meters above sea level, southwest facing and with an area of about 18 hectares, of which 12 hectares are dedicated to olive cultivation.

Originally the estate was a monoculture of centenary and millenary olive trees of the autochthonous variety Farga. The frost of 1956 modified the varietal structure of the region, and new plantations were made to replace the damaged trees. At Finca Varona la Vella, the native Morrut variety was initially introduced, which was very well adapted to the area and ripened later than the Farga. Later, in the nineties, new plantations of the Empeltre variety were done, originating from the bordering region of Bajo Aragón and of the Picual variety, originally from the province of Jaén.
